Texas Instruments TMS570 Hercules microcontroller hosts safety critical applications under EUROS

Sep 19, 2018

The company EUROS Embedded Systems announces the availability of its Real-Time Operating System EUROS including the eclipse based Stand-Alone Cross Development Environment EUROS Embedded Studio® for the Hercules™ TMS570 microcontroller of the company Texas Instruments.

The Hercules™ TMS570 family of microcontrollers was specially designed to facilitate the implementation of safety-critical applications according to the safety standards IEC 61508 SIL 3 and ISO 26262 ASIL D.

The TMS570 is a powerful microcontroller based on an ARM Cortex®-R4F core providing hardware mechanisms used for acceleration of computational activities needed to achieve compliance with the safety and security standards. It runs at up to 300 MHz and has a CPU performance up to 500 DMIPS. It provides 512KB of RAM memory, up to 4MB of Embedded Flash memory and offers a wide range of peripheral controllers like Ethernet, FlexRay, CAN, LIN, etc.

Furthermore, the TMS570 microcontroller offers advanced integrated security features together with scalable power density, connectivity and storage options.

Its architecture enables an easy integration into a 1oo1D lockstep configuration, which provides protection against multi-bit memory errors, keeping a simple, easy to use single core programmer's model at the same time. The Hercules implementation of the Cortex-R4F CPU includes also an MPU, thus protecting the RTOS core and stack from invalid execution by tasks as well as protecting data from corruption and providing a tight control over externally loaded applications. The TMS570 microcontroller has an on-chip flash memory, equipped with single error correction, dual error detection (SECDED) and error-correcting code (ECC) diagnostic. In addition, it supports the use of a hardware logic BIST (LBIST) engine and self-test controller (STC), thus providing a very high diagnostic coverage on the lockstep CPUs at transistor level.

These and many another key functional safety features like monitoring of the external clock, monitoring of the voltage and MCU state monitoring via external watchdog logic make the Hercules™ TMS570 an outstanding microcontroller for functional safety products in automotive, railway and aerospace applications.

Especially for the TMS570 family of microcontrollers EUROS Embedded Systems offers all needed device driver packages, graphics libraries and network protocols like serial, SPI, I2C, Ethernet, TCP/IP, USB, OPC UA, Embedded Wizard, Qt, etc.

The newly established OPC UA communication standard was also made available for the Hercules™ TMS570 family of microcontrollers operating under EUROS control. The OPC UA stack provides the service-oriented architecture needed for establishing of the interoperability of devices and services within the new emerging technologies such as Industry 4.0, Smart Home or Internet of Things.

The whole development process is backed up by the eclipse based Cross Development Environment EUROS Embedded Studio®. It allows an individual, application-specific and fully automatic configuration of the system software and offers a range of additional development tools - such as graphical components configurator, real-time tracing, static code analysis, code coverage, RTOS-awareness, etc., that significantly support and facilitate the development of embedded applications.

EUROS available now for Renesas´s RX microcontroller

Sep 19, 2018

The company EUROS Embedded Systems, a Gold Alliance Partner of the Renesas corporation, announces the availability of its Real-Time Operating System EUROS including the eclipse based Stand-Alone Cross Development Environment EUROS Embedded Studio® for the next generation of Renesas's 32bit microcontroller type RX63N.

The RX63N is a powerful microcontroller, which runs at up to 100 MHz and has a CPU performance up to 165 DMIPS. It has 256KB RAM and 32KB Flash ROM and offers a wide range of peripheral controllers like CAN, I2C, PDC, watchdog timer, CRC, etc. The RX63N microcontroller has also a built-in USB 2.0 full-speed (Function/Host/OTG) functionality and an AES - data encryption unit.

Especially for the Starter Kit RSK RX63N in combination with the RSK ComsBoard (Ethernet and USB Application Board) and the TFT LCD extension, EUROS Embedded Systems offers all needed device driver packages, graphics libraries and network protocols like serial, SPI, I2C, Ethernet, TCP/IP, USB, PPP, FTP, SNMP, SMTP and many more.

Also the Eclipse-based IDE EUROS Embedded Studio ® has been adapted to the RX63N-microcontroller. It allows an individual, application-specific and fully automatic configuration of the system software and offers a range of additional development tools - such as graphical components configurator, real-time tracing, static code analysis, code coverage, RTOS-awareness, etc., which significantly support and facilitate the development of embedded applications.

EUROS Bare-Metal-solution for Cortex M3

Sep 19, 2018

EUROS Embedded Systems GmbH offers now a cost-effective solution based on a Cortex M3 microcontroller complemented with a cross-development environment and complete system software.

This solution is a result from the long-term cooperation with the Korean semiconductor manufacturer, the company ABOV Semiconductor, and is built around an optimized 32-bit Cortex M3 microcontroller, specifically designed to facilitate the development of drive control applications. Besides this, the offered  one-chip microcontroller of type AC33M8128 is very well suited for controlling of small systems like kitchen appliances, coffee machines, Internet of Things or medical devices  and is characterized by a very low power consumption. The microcontroller operates at max. 75MHz and features 128KB Flash and 12KB RAM. Besides timer and PWM functionality, UART, SPI and I2C communication channels are also available. The full range of debugger connections to the target system including JTAG, SWD, FPB, DWT, ITM, TPIU and ETM is provided as well. A starter kit based on the selected microcontroller is also available.

Especially for the AC33M8128 microcontroller EUROS provides all necessary driver packages and network protocols in a so-called bare-metal version, e.g. without the overhead of a conventional real-time operating system. In addition, the Eclipse-based EUROS Embedded Studio® takes over the role of the cross-development environment and enables at the click of a button the automatic generation of tailor-made system software. The target system can be connected either using the real-time debug agent EUROSrda or via a JTAG adapter including ETM functionality.

EUROS concludes a partnership with the companies Vector Software and Polarion

Sep 19, 2018

Besides functional requirements, in the case of critical embedded applications, the demands on security requirements have been dramatically increased recently. The system integrity especially against external influences, sabotage or espionage must be also fully guaranteed.

In order to meet all those requirements, e.g. increasing both functional safety and security level and in the same time reducing the risk for embedded applications, a certification process according to the IEC 61508 Ed. 2 (SIL3) and IEC 62443 standards was initiated within our company, the EUROS Embedded Systems GmbH. Currently, the certification of the Real-Time Operating System EUROS as the first real-time operating system for both "Safety" and "Security" is being finalized. As auditor the company TÜV Süd was chosen.

In the course of our IEC 61508 SIL 3 certification process we teamed up with the companies Vector Software and Polarion Software, in order to achieve the stringent requirements on functional safety and security in embedded systems.

Based on the gained expertise throughout this process,  we can help our customers to significantly accelerate the certification of their own application using the already well-established and proven automated test environment based on the VectorCAST Suite of the company Vector Software, which has been integrated under EUROS. Thus, V-model-compliant Unit Tests, Integration Tests, System Tests and Code Coverage can be easily generated and automated for EUROS-based applications.

For the compilation of the Software Requirements for both development and test purposes we recommend the tool Polarion of the company Polarion Software. If Model Driven development, including corresponding  code generation is required, a Domain Specific languages solution of the company MetaCase can be also offered.
